Aviva is a global insurance company with their headquarters in London, United Kingdom, but are in 20 countries around the world. It was created by a merger of two British insurance firms, Norwich Union and CGU Plc and is now the market leader for general insurance and life insurance in the UK, yet also does pensions, investments and long term savings.

Legal and General


Started in a coffee shop by a sergeant and five lawyers, it is now making multi million pounds worth of revenue a year over 8 countries. With the headquarters in London, United Kingdom, the PLC mainly deals in life insurance and general insurance, as well as pensions and investments. In 2009, they paid out 98.2% of claims.

Liverpool Victoria (LV)


LV is the UK’s largest friendly society (a mutual organization or benefit society composed of a body of people who join together for a common financial or social purpose) and as such has no shareholders. It is instead owned by it’s 1.1 million members. It mainly has products in general insurance covering motor, home, pet and travel, but also is very large in life insurance, banking and investments.



The Zurich Financial Services Group is one of the leading suppliers of Insurance and Risk Management, specialising in both Life and General Insurance. They operate in Europe, Africa, Americas, Pacific and the Middle East. It has over 60,000 employees turning over multi billion pounds of revenue.

Sun Life Financial


Sun Life Financial was founded in 1865 in Montreal USA, now with it’s headquarters in Toronto, USA and operating in over 11 countries. It’s most well-known branch in the UK is Sun Life Direct, giving life insurance millions of over 50s. Recently they purchased the naming rights for the home field of the Miami Dolphins for a reported $7.5 million a year.



AXA is a French global insurance group, especially life and health, as well investment management, and also owns online insurer Swiftcover. It’s headquarters are in Paris, France, and conducts business primarily in Western Europe, North America and the Asia Pacific region and the Middle East.



Aegon is one the world’s largest life insurance and pension groups. With a headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands and employing 27,500 worldwide, serving around 40 million customers. They recently bought the rights off Stella Artois for the Queens Club tennis tournament in London. in 2010 they paid 95.5% of life claims.
